New Acquisitions 2010

The most basic and important duty of a museum is collecting fine art works. By collecting and using art historically, aesthetically, and historically valuable artworks  are for providing audiences an opportunity to appreciate and enjoy art in a better level. With help of experts, a museum collects artwork, tries provides the artwork to be preserved permanently, gathers and studies data about the work. The collected & studied art work meets public through diverse channels such as exhibitions, educations, academic symposiums, etc.

 

The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea collected 48 works from various fields like paintings, Korean paintings, sculptures, new media and photography in 2010. "New Acquisitions 2010" is a special exhibition to open new collection to public and displays 45 works among the new collection of 48. Especially, global artists' new media artworks which reflect the recent change of media were collected. By collecting exhibited works of veteran and elder artists, the museum offers to approach the traces of Korean modern art movement, following the collecting direction of continuous gathering major artwork of Korean modern art history. Among the new collection, PARK Hyun-ki's three works are exhibited currently at Circular Exhibition Hall 2, two image installation works of Bill Viola will be included in a special exhibition next year.

 

"New Acquisitions 2010" is the exhibition to show the fruit of the museum's effort for the new collection of last year. Through the collecting, studying of collection, and exhibitions, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea will lead the Korean modern art and approach more closely to the public.
