Jesper Just, one of the most prominent young video artists, has gradually built up his reputation among the Korean audience since he represented Denmark at the Venice Biennial in 2013. His works possess a power to capture different aspects of high-quality commercial films, namely the inexplicable emotional exchange between human (or human and the surroundings) and thereby, expose its contradictory nature. Tracing a map of human desire beyond social conventions and clichés has been his persisting interest. 

 

This is a Landscape of Desire, the artist's first solo exhibition in Korea, will present the artist's major works that spans over a decade including Nameless Spectacle (2011), Sirens of Chrome (2010). A voyage in Dwelling (2008) as well as This is a Landscape of Desire (2013) which was produced for this particular exhibition. Landscape of Desire (2013) consists of a monolithic pillar onto which images of women wandering under the highway in Los Angeles are projected. An odd relationship is created by the juxtaposition of these female figures and the concrete structure as a typical symbol of the male gender, ultimately casting a doubt on the stereotypical gender categorization. It is up to the audience to find a landing dock amongst these complex figures, subtle emotions, and wandering views offered.
