Then and Now : The National Academy of Arts 60th Anniversary Exhibition was designed to be a retrospective on modern Korean art and the history of the NAA, which has played a pioneering role in the development of Koreanart since its launch in 1954.

The NAA was established as a means for Korean artists to promote and develop art as well as their individual artistic activities. Since its first exhibition was held in 1979, the annual event has consistently highlighted Korean art from the past and present through works by NAA members, many of whom represent Koreas leading contemporary artists. Over the years, Academy members have carried on the legacy of Korean art even during times of great social and political upheaval, laying the foundation for todays Korean art.

This years 60th anniversary exhibition features 79 major works by 35 late members and 22 current members of the Academys Fine Art Division. It is my sincere hope that this event will be looked upon as a festival that NAA members, tomorrows next generation of artists, and every visitor to MMCA Deoksugung can take part in and enjoy together.
