MMCA x KNCDC Performance: Unforeseen is an extension of the annual Multi-Arts
Project organized by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea
(MMCA). This year the project is co-organized by MMCA and Korea National
Contemporary Dance Company (KNCDC) to expand the experimentation and
opportunity in the exchange between varying genres, and to accentuate the
footsteps of young artist in their efforts to surpass the limitations of genre
and form through interdisciplinary art.
This collaborative project of MMCA and KNCDC creates the ‘unforeseen’ scenes
discarding the dichotomy between genres of art and dance beyond each context.
It intends to enlarge the horizons of contemporary interdisciplinary arts
connected to controlled chance, indeterminism, uncertainty and etc. by
actualizing the performances stirred amidst coincidence and inevitability,
apart from the physical limitations, conventional space or regulated thoughts.
This performance project of the 13 artists/team based on collaboration among
media, video, sound, and installation under the subtitle, ‘The Unforeseen’ will
provide an unconventional opportunity for the audience to peek into the
‘tension between performance and exhibition in the form of continuity and
participation’, which is one of the rising issues of contemporary art.
MMCA x KNCDC Performance: Unforeseen will be held for about three months in
various places of MMCA, Seoul and it will be unfolded in diverse forms from
exhibition-type performance to dance entering the museum to impromptu guerilla
type performance. This project is anticipated to impel the audiences to
encounter each of their own unforeseen moments while witnessing the attraction
of the infinitely evolving interdisciplinary art.
