Can we listen with the heart? This question inevitably leads to other profound questions: Where does the heart reside, and what does it mean to listen with it? Park Minhee’s new work, Inward Resonating, a continuation of her reinterpretation of traditional music through a contemporary sensibility, is like a detective’s report written through sound, body, and heart. The traditional vocal genre gagok maintains a distinctive sense of time in order to fully unfold the spaces that exist between words and syllables. Because this temporality stands in clear contrast to the pace of today—where the repetition of short phrases has become habitual—it paradoxically opens a new interval for us. This new work is not a rapid song projected outward. Instead, it is a persistent act of listening by a detective who seeks to capture the subtle traces of sound and textures of the heart that resonate within both singer and listener. On a stage where light has been removed, audiences follow the traces of silence and emptiness, sensing with their entire bodies how invisible resonances become inner realities. After its performance in Seoul, the work is scheduled to be presented at the performing arts festival Kyoto Experiment in Japan.
Designated as Important Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 30 of Korea, Park Minhee, an isuja (certified practitioner) of gagok (a genre of traditional Korean vocal music), is an artist who reinterprets the aesthetics and structure of traditional Korean music through a contemporary sensibility. Continually questioning what it means to practice traditional music today, Park has been engaging in experimental work that redefines, in musical terms, the relationship between performer and audience beyond the act of mere listening. In her work, the body is not merely an instrument that produces sound, but a site where music lives and resonates. Through this shift, she offers the audience a sonic and spatial experience unlike any other. Her best known works include the No Longer Gagok series, Hanging Bed, and Wind Blows from the Mountain Where Spirits Gathered.

Due to the nature of the performance, late entry is not permitted. Please arrive at the MMCA Multi-Project Hall at least 10 minutes before the scheduled performance time.
Reservations may be cancelled until 6:00 PM on the day before the performance. After this deadline, cancellations and changes will no longer be accepted.
