#1. Introduction
Visitors, welcome to the exhibition. Anyone with even the slightest interest in contemporary art cannot overlook the name Damien Hirst. Since making his debut in the late 1980s with provocative challenges to institutional art, Hirst has continually redefined the direction of contemporary art. But what is it about this British artist that makes him so extraordinary? Hirst is an artist who consistently and persistently explores the complex human emotions and desires surrounding life, death, and beauty. Rather than presenting these profound subjects as heavy themes, he expresses them through striking and captivating visual forms. In doing so, he invites us to confront the truth and inherent fear that we often try to avoid in our everyday lives.
This exhibition marks the first major survey of Hirst’s work in Asia, tracing 35 years of his artistic practice through both chronological and thematic lenses.
