MMCA Gwacheon 40th Anniversary: Imaginations in Light

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, MMCA Gwacheon reconsiders the role of the museum and the ways it is experienced through its unique setting, where nature, architecture, and art coexist. Bringing together exhibitions, educational initiatives, design interventions, and public programs, the anniversary program reflects on the museum's past forty years while exploring new possibilities for its future.

The anniversary program features Lingering Grounds, a project in which Kim Haneul, Bang Hyobeen, Im Jungjoo, Ha Jihoon, and Hwang Hyungshin present sculptures to sit on, connecting the Sculpture Park's existing artworks, the natural landscape, and visitors' bodily experience; Lightscape, a collection-based installation project that activates the museum's public spaces through the theme of light, featuring works by Kim Ayoung and Philippe Parreno; and Afterimage, which expands the exploration of light, perception, and spatial experience through works by James Turrell and Iván Navarro. The program also includes the special screening program Artists in the Sculpture Park, presented in conjunction with the exhibitions, the participatory archive project 40 Scenes, and a range of educational programs at the Children's Museum.

Moving across nature and art, space and perception, the anniversary program reexamines MMCA Gwacheon's experimental spirit and public character while inviting visitors to imagine the museum's future.
