MMCA Residency Changdong Report 2018, the largest annual exhibition of the MMCA (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea) Residency Changdong, will be held from November 23 (Fri) through December 2 (Sun) at MMCA Residency Changdong. The Residency Changdong is proudly affiliated with internationally renowned programs such as the Mondrian Fund Fellowship Program, International Artists Fellowship Program, and International Artists/Researchers Residency Program. We serve as the global hub of art and artists exchange, supporting various genres including visual arts, dance, and critique. The exhibition MMCA Residency Changdong Report 2018 introduces seven artists who have been in our residency this year, and showcases their works created during their stay.
Despite diverse backgrounds and cultural differences, all of the resident artists gathered in Changdong under one objective to explore their individual artistic sensibilities. Some artist extends their own research subject in this foreign country, while some shares their personal encounters as romantic narratives or discusses their new inspirations and aesthetic discoveries found in different parts of Seoul. Changdong Residency Report 2018 proposes an artistic festival consisting of artists eager to travel the world for the sole purpose of experimenting and creating new artworks.
On November 23 (Fri), the opening day of the exhibition, there will be Open Studios in which all the resident artists, researchers and project teams participate and open up their spaces to the visitors. There will be a variety of events on this day, including a performance organized by Joowon Song, sound performance by Nakion, and also an artist’s talk by one of the project teams ‘Art of Things, Art for the Specter.’ And on November 24th, project team ‘Z-A(Z After)’ will host a round table with experts in the arts field. During the exhibition period, there will also be a screening of Joowon Song’s collaborative performance with Okin Collective, and on the very last day of the exhibition, they will use the entire residency building to show a performance.
