《The Art of Travel》introduces five overseas artists who have been in the MMCA Goyang Residency in 2018 through International Residency Exchange Program. Since 2004, MMCA Residency Goyang associates with leading overseas institutions to support counter-change program to extend Korean artists' promotion. This year, seven institutions from five countries including Taiwan, Germany, Argentina, Japan and Canada exchanged artists like Luo Jr-shin, Daniel Stubenvoll, Ruth Hutter, Andrés Brisson, Kenji Makizono and Philippe Allard.
The title of the exhibition, 《The Art of Travel》was borrowed from the same essay. The author of the book, Alain de Botton, took artists as guides to describe the value and purpose of the travel and beauty of the travel places together with his insights and intelligence of great minds in the past.
In 《The Art of Travel》exhibition, five artists from the MMCA Residency Goyang through an international residency exchange program will be presented as guides to the travel places. Visitors will see different MMCA Residency Goyang, by the artistic perception of the place where the diverse experiences and interests of different artists meet. The show brought by artists with different cultural backgrounds that enforce their own interpretation of sensation and observation on the same place MMCA Residency Goyang into the creation of new works through their own situation and thoughts. This exhibition will provide a new stimulus for all visitors whether they are familiar with the residency or not.
MMCA Residency Goyang is looking forward to the exhibition of the year 2018 《The Art of Travel》 presents the result of the successful international program and leads interexchange of culture and conversation.
On the frist day of exhibition, the international artists have studio open and the free shuttle bus will be provided from MMCA Seoul and Gupabal Station to MMCA Residency Goyang. Also Japanese Artist Kenji Makizono will show the project performance . On 28th July(Sat), international artists will present their projects in the Art&Talk program.
