MMCA
Residency Changdong, run by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art,
Korea (MMCA), is now receiving applications for the International Artists
Residency Program 2017. MMCA Residency Changdong, established in 2002, aims to
provide a supportive environment for art practice and foster creative artistic
exchanges between artists and various art professionals.

- 1st term: 13 April - 22
June, 2017 (1 artist)
- 2nd term: 4 July - 13 September,

* Early move-in and late move-out are
not allowed.

Number of Artists: 1 Artist for each term/ 3 Artists in total
* If the jury does not find
suitable candidates, MMCA Residency may not fulfill the total number of artists.

Eligibility
- Who are over 25 years old
- Who have not previously
participated in a residency program of MMCA Residency
(Changdong/ Goyang)
- Who are fluent in English
(required)
* Only individual artists, not duo
or team. Work partners, assistants, and family members are not allowed to stay
at the residency together.
* If you are working
based in Netherlands, please consider applying for the Mondriaan Fund

■ Support
for Selected Artists
- Private studio with accommodation
included (free of charge)
- Monthly Grant: KRW 1,000,000(approx.
USD 890) per month for living costs
(total KRW 3,000,000 for the full residency
period)
* The grant will be transferred directly
to the participant's Korean bank account every month and the total amount is subject to change based on one’s residency period.
- Access to the residency's
facilities and resources
- Seminar, workshop, etc.

* Selected artists should submit a
copy of insurance certificate to MMCA Residency Changdong.
Artists can be rejected without insurance.

How to Apply: postal mail or online
● Postal
Mail: Send a CD or DVD containing digital files of all materials via mail to
the address below by traceable mailing method
* It must arrive at MMCA Residency
Changdong no later than Friday, 30 September, 2016.
- Please include all materials in
one CD or DVD (within 50MB) and make two folders (1. Documents and 2.
Portfolios) in the CD

- All attached files can be
uploaded up to 50MB
- Submitted application materials
will be removed after the selection of artists
- Online application system will be
closed at 18:00 in Korean time, on Friday, 30 September, 2016. We request
applicants to apply in advance to avoid any possible errors or problems caused
by the overflowing applicant crowd near the deadline. Failure to meet the deadline
is unacceptable under any circumstances.

CV or Résumé including exhibitions,
projects, residency, awards and education experiences (no more than 2 pages)
3.
Portfolio:
- Up to 10 works in the form of
digital files (image in .jpg, .pdf format/ video or sound in .avi, .mp4 format)
- For video or sound works, the
duration of each file should be up to 5min. Link to the website is not acceptable.
4.
Artist Statement including the description of portfolio works (title, year,
medium, size, and brief description on works)
5.
Project Plan including the anticipated outcome during the residency period
6.
Letter of Recommendation
- PDF format
- Contact information of the
recommender (email, phone) should be included
- The letter must be signed by the
recommender

etc.) and any hyperlinks in the attached files.

Selection and Notification Process
1.
Review of all applications
2.
Notification of the shortlist at the beginning of November, 2016
3.
Interview (online, English) of selected applicants on the shortlist at the end of
November, 2016
4.
Notification of the final selection at the beginning of December, 2016
