The National Museum of Modern
and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA; director
Kim Sunghee) proudly announces a new partnership with LG Electronics (CEO William Cho). This collaboration
aims to advance the development of contemporary art and other arts and cultural
initiatives across Korea. Under this agreement, LG Electronics will exclusively
provide exhibition sponsorship and technical support for the MMCA X LG OLED Series
over the next three years.
The Series will primarily take place at
Seoul Box, a central exhibition space within MMCA Seoul. This iconic 16
meter-high transition space, which visitors first encounter at MMCA Seoul, has
been a hub for large-scale, site-specific installations, captivating both the
art community and the general public since its opening in 2013. The partnership
allows artists from Korea and the world to showcase their innovative and
creative works in further enriching the contemporary art scene by incorporating
electronic devices with cutting-edge technology. The first artist featured in
this Series will be announced in early 2025.
LG Electronics has long supported
exhibitions at prestigious art museums across the globe as well as
international art initiatives. Based on this experience, its tie-up with the
MMCA aims to develop contemporary Korean art across multiple dimensions.
Seung jin Oh, Vice President of Korea
HE/BS Marketing Division at LG
Electronics, said, “We are delighted to help advance contemporary Korean art
through our collaboration with the MMCA." He continued, "This will be
a unique opportunity for LG OLED to engage local and global artists as the
ultimate digital canvas, offering an unrivaled experience for museum visitors.”
Kim Sunghee, director of the MMCA, notes,
“This partnership with LG Electronics will produce a project in which art and
technology generate remarkable synergy. We will enhance collaboration with
world-renowned artists and continuously develop diverse programs that propose
new possibilities in contemporary art. These initiatives will offer both
domestic and international visitors innovative and diverse artistic
experiences.”
